- Past themes have included: American Barnyard, Wild African Safari, Around the World in 14 Days, Castles and Dragons, and Adventures on the High Seas.
- Each session comes to a close with an Explorer Camp carnival.
Sports and Recreation Activities
- Explorer Camp is a highly structured and active camp. Most activities take place outdoors where campers enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
- Campers take part in approximately eight 30 minute, fun-filled activities each day, including American Red Cross swimming lessons.
- This schedule is designed to provide just the right amount of time developmentally for our young campers to maintain their focus during the activitites. Eight activities enables campers to experience a variety of different sports. Also, this schedule provides ample opportunities for water and potty breaks between each activity.
- Our swimming lessons are taught by a highly qualified group of swim instructors who will help your child develop their swimming skills.
- Whether your child is new to the pool or a "fish out of water," our instructors will see to it that lessons are tailored to your child's swimming ability.
Other activities offered may include the following:
- To encourage learning, a camper's activity schedule generally stays the same for the entire session.
- Campers are assigned to specific activities by the Explorer Coordinator one week prior to the beginning of the session from a list of activities which may include: arts and crafts, basketball, cooperative games, dance, drama, football, frisbee golf, music, nature, rugby, soccer, swimming lessons, t-ball, track and field, and volleyball.
- Care is taken to provide a schedule for your child that includes a mixture of active (e.g. soccer, basketball) and less active activities (e.g. nature, arts and crafts) throughout the day.
- Specialized instructors, with the support from your child's group leader, teach the activities.
- Selection of activities each session is partially based upon staff expertise and availability, and facility availability.
Explorer Camp Organization
- Explorer campers are placed into groups by age and are co-ed.
- To help foster friendships, campers remain in the same group for the entire session.
- Group assignments and activity schedules are generally given to campers and their parents between 8:45 and 9:00 AM on the first day of each session.
- Group assignments are given in advance to those parents who attend camp orientation on an evening scheduled several days prior to the start of a session.
- Does your child have a friend that's going to camp too? Then let us know during the enrollment process and we will make every effort to put your child in the same group as their friend. (Please note, children must be of the same age) May request up to three friends.
