
Youth Camps | Certifications
Swim Instructors
Must have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor & Lifeguard Training certifications. Standard First Aid (valid 3 years) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (valid 1 year) are already included in Lifeguard Training.
Wilderness Staff
Must have WFA certification.
Summer Staff
All summer staff are strongly recommended to have current certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR (one person adult & child CPR), and AED.
Important Information
GET CPR (CHILD/ADULT) WITH AED & STANDARD FIRST AID CERTIFICATIONS!
Present your current certifications to the Staff Coordinator no later than June 23rd, to maintain your salary level, otherwise, pay rate is $1 less per hour. If you begin work after the first session, please provide certifications no later than the first day of the session you begin work (e.g. 6/29/09 if you start July 2nd).
Your certifications must be valid for the entire period of employment. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. American Red Cross CPR certification is valid for 1 yr. and FIRST AID certification valid for 3 yrs. For certification information call the Bay Area American Red Cross [800-520-5433 ext 23] or your local American Red Cross for dates and times of classes.
This policy does not apply to Junior Counselors and CITs, although we encourage you to become certified for your own knowledge and development.
Acceptable Agencies for CPR, First Aid, and AED
The following list includes certifying bodies/organizations that meet the specified American Camp Association (ACA) standards for CPR with AED & Standard First Aid:

Although you do not have to obtain your certifications directly from one of the organizations listed above, the training facility you selct must be affiliated with one of the aforementioned organizations. Fast Response is an example of a training facility affiliated with the American Heart Association and offers the appropriate certifications in CPR required to work at our camps.
We also reserve the right to require a demonstration of the required skills, at anytime, regardless of where certifications were obtained.
CPR with AED & First Aid Classes for CYOP Staff
Below are the dates, times, locations, and how to enroll for classes being offered. Please note: these courses are only for Cal Youth & Outdoor Program staff (e.g. Explorer, Blue, Skate, S2, Swim Instructors, Cal Adventures, ATDP, etc). Class rosters wil be checked for staff status.
To enroll in a course, please make a selection below, have payment information ready (e.g. Visa or MasterCard) and personal information available. Please check dates and locations carefully, as there are NO REFUNDS. Classes can only be enrolled on-line and must be enrolled before class begins. Spaces are limited.

First Aid, CPR, & AED Challenge Classes
You may challenge all or part of the course certifications, but there is no review of material or practice time before testing is done. Challenge courses are not intended for first-time students.

3rd Floor Conference Room: from the Bancroft St. entrance, take the first set of stairs on the right and walk up to the 3rd Floor. This is the same location as the hiring appointments.
Strawberry Canyon Recreation Area (SCRA)
SCRA is located on Centennial Drive, east of Rim Way and the Memorial Stadium. The Club Room is located at the Haas Clubhouse. Walk past the West Pool and up the wooden stairs.
