All Membership Types

What do I get with my Cal Rec Club membership?

Fac/Staff Cal Rec Club memberships are considered full memberships, which means that you will have access to all Cal Rec Club facilites. These include RSF, Spieker Pool, Hearst Pool, Strawberry Canyon Pool, Golden Bear Rec Center pool, and the Fit Center at Strawberry Canyon.

When will my membership be activated?

In-person sign up activates your membership immediately at the point of sale. Online sign up activates your membership the following day.

What if I signed up online and my membership is not active?

Please allow 24 hours for your membership to activate after purchasing online. Contact the Cal Rec Club Membership Office for assistance if it has not activated by that date.

What forms of payment are accepted by the RSF Cashier Station?

The Cal Rec Club Cashier accepts payments in the form of:

  • Cash
  • Check made payable to "UC Regents."
  • Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Only)

Where can I park?

There are public spaces in the RSF garage, Strawberry Canyon Rec Area, and Golden Bear Rec Center. For information about parking, please visit Department of Parking & Transportation website.

Fac/Staff Memberships

Who is eligible for payroll deduction?

Fac/Staff employees who sign up for an annual Cal Rec Club membership are eligible to enroll in the payroll deduction option. TAP employees, PostDocs, Visting Scholars and LBNL employees are not eligible for payroll deduction but are eligible to take advantage of the Fac/Staff rates.

Is payroll deduction pre-tax dollars?

No.

How do I renew my membership?

You may renew in-person at the Membership Desk in the RSF, or online via our sign up page.

How can I change the payment option on my membership?

What if I want to change to a different membership type?

You may purchase a different membership type when you current membership expires.  Membership Types.

What is the “sponsoree option”?

Fac/Staff employees who sign up for a Cal Rec Club membership are eligible to sponsor one person at the same residence for a membership at the same rates. The sponsoree must meet the minimum age requirements and both parties must be present when signing up. The Fac/Staff employee must first sign up for a membership before the sponsoree is eligible and must provide proof of shared residence, marriage or domestic partnership.

Student Memberships

Who is eligible for the student rate?

Undergraduate and graduate students registered for the current semester, enrolled in the minimum number of units, fees current, and no registration blocks at the time of signup.

What will my $10 fee give me besides access to the facilities and equipment?

Besides access to the Recreational Sports programs and facilities including the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF), Strawberry Canyon Recreation Area (SCRA), Golden Bear Recreation Center (GBRC), Spieker Pool, and Hearst Pool; each student member will receive FREE group exercise classes.

How do I sign-up?

Sign up online or in-person at the RSF Cashier Station, Strawberry Canyon Offices, or Golden Bear Cashier Station.

What is my CalNet ID?

This is the user ID that you use to log onto secure campus websites, such as Telebears. It is not the same as your Student ID number. Your Student ID is the set of numbers displayed across the top of your student ID card.  This is different from the CalNet ID.  You need to create your own special CalNet ID.  To create a CalNet ID, students must log onto the following site: https://calnet.berkeley.edu/myi/id/change

When are the free access periods?

The Complimentary Facility Use periods include the first three weeks of the fall and spring semesters; 1st week of the summer months.

Can I pay for more than one semester at a time?

No. You must sign up each semester. We need to verify that your student status is current.

Is there a pro-rated fee?

No. Even if you sign up mid semester you must pay the full $10. Students who choose not to pay the membership fee may purchase day passes to use the facilities.

What about refunds for non-use?

Can I suspend my membership and float a credit toward another semester? Student memberships are non-refundable, non-transferable, not for cash value, and cannot be suspended for use at a later time.

Do I get a free box locker?

Do I have to clear the locker every semester? No, a free box locker is not included with your membership. You may purchase the use of a box size, half size or full size locker for the semester. See the Membership section of this website for details. You will have to clear your locker if you do not renew your locker rental agreement for the next semester prior to the locker clearance deadline.

Refunds and Cancellations

What is the Cal Rec Club Refund/Cancellation Policy?

The back of the membership contract states: "Contract cancellation requests must be made to the Cal Rec Club within 72 hours after joining (not including holidays). Full refunds will be made provided request is approved and Cal Rec Club membership card and all other passes and permits have been returned to the Cal Rec Club office. Beyond 72 hours, no refunds, credits, or exchanges will be permitted.

Long-Term Members require a six-month minimum contract and must give 30-day advance written notice in order to cancel or suspend membership.

If I believe I am eligible for a refund, how do I apply?

Cancellation/Refund request forms are available at the CRC Membership Desk at the entrance to the RSF, or available for download on our forms page. The form must be filled out completely and any supporting documentation attached before it will be accepted for review. Refunds take 1-2 weeks to be processed at which point we will contact the requestor to let them know if their request has been approved or denied.
