Youth Camps | Application Procedures

Thank you for your interest in a position with our youth program! We recognize that our staff and volunteers are the heart of the program and we work hard to build and support an amazing team. 

How To Apply

  • You can only apply for a job online. There are no paper applications.

There are 2 steps:

  1. Complete the online Cal Youth Outdoor Staff Application.
  2. Download the Supplemental Forms (see below) for New or Returning Staff, fill them out, and send them to us.

Step 1: Complete the on-line CYOP Staff Application (See link above).

Helpful Hints:

  • Before you begin have the following information available: your e-mail address you frequently check, your addresses (current, summer, permanent) and phone numbers; emergency contact information, date of last tetanus shot, summer availability, skills and work experience. If under age 18, parent/guardian will need to electronically provide signature.
  • Do NOT press the BACK key while completing the on-line staff application, as it will boot you out of the application.
  • If you are applying for multiple camp positions with Cal Youth Outdoor Programs, complete the application once for all positions.
  • If you are unfamiliar with our positions and camps, please visit our other web pages before you begin.

Work Permit

Work Permits are required for all paid staff who are under the age of 18. 

  1. Pick up an Application For Work Permit from your school counslor or school office. 
  2. Complete your section and send the Application For Work Permit to the CYOP Staff Coordinator (address listed above). 
  3. Staff Coordinator will sign it and send it back to you. 
  4. Take the completed  Application For Work Permit back to where you originally obtained it (usually your school). 
  5. Your school will give you the actual Work Permit.  If you are hired, you must bring your Work Permit to your hiring appointment. 
  6. You cannot work unless the Personnel Office has your Work Permit.

Interviews

We will review your application and notify you by the e-mail address you provided on your application if we select you for an in-person interview. Phone interview is available for those out of the area. Interviews begin in March and applications will be accepted until positions are filled. We finish our main hiring by mid June but do hire all summer, even in mid August.  Applicants who do not meet minimum requirements will be promptly notified. All other applications will be kept on file until interviews are completed.

Those applying for swim instructor, EMT/paramedic, and wilderness positions must submit copies of current certifications (front and back).   For swim instructor:  WSI, Lifeguard Training, and CPR/PR, AED.  For EMT/paramedic positions:  EMT/paramedic license valid in the state of California and CPR adult/child with AED.  For wilderness positions:  WFA.  Please feel free to contact us at any time during the process.
